A car accident early Tuesday morning on 2/13 left one sandwich shop owner without an entryway – unless customers wanted to walk through what’s left of the front door and window-lined entrance to place an order.
Anthony Marini, owner of The Pass sandwich shop in downtown Charleston, SC, awoke around 3:30 a.m. on February 13 to messages from a friend on the Charleston police force notifying him of a potential accident at the corner of Spring and St. Philip Streets.
As Marini was preparing to leave, a call from the fire marshal, another friend, confirmed his fears – a car had run into his storefront, according to Hannah Lee Leidy of Eater Carolinas.
As reported by WBCD News 2, a preliminary report from the police department revealed that a Maserati traveling west on Spring Street ran a red light and collided with a Jeep traveling south on St. Philip Street.
The Jeep overturned and the Maserati crashed into the storefront of The Pass, destroying the front door and window-lined entrance. Debris was sent throughout the dining room, but left the kitchen – along with food and appliances – untouched.
No one was seriously injured in the car accident, which occurred just after 2 a.m.
Local restaurants have already reached out to Marini, offering help in the form of kitchen space, food trucks, and food donations.
The Pass in Charleston will remain closed until further notice, which means locals of the lunchtime favorite will have to find equivalents of the Italian American-style sandwiches elsewhere – though they may be hard-pressed to find anything comparable to “Such a Nice Italian Boy” and “It’s Always Honey in Philadelphia”- a few of the unique options available at The Pass.

Protect the Scene of the Car Accident
Take all precautions to alert traffic and protect the scene of the incident. This can be done by enabling the hazard lights in your vehicle.
